Frequently Asked Questions

Will counseling help?

Research over the past few years shows that with the right approach, most people who get counseling feel happier and more satisfied with their relationships and their lives. Of course every person is different, and it is your choice whether counseling will the most effective approach in your particular situation.

For individuals, counseling is most helpful if you are motivated and set realistic goals. For couples, you are most likely to benefit if both you and your partner are committed to making your relationship better; and if you are willing to focus on your own feelings, reactions and goals as part of the relationship work.

Do I really need counseling?

Relationships can be challenging. If you've tried making changes and are still frustrated, counseling can help. It takes courage to take a close look at your relationship, and it's a sign of strength to get extra support when you need it. It means that you are self-aware enough to know you need help, and are committed to your relationship.

Research shows that couples wait an average of six years between feeling very unhappy and seeking help. As time goes on the hurt, anger, and distance grows. Taking a look at problems while they are still small can be one of the most helpful things you can do to strengthen your relationship.

Do you work with individuals?

Yes! You can better understand yourself in relationships, and learn new relationship skills to share with your partner. Sometimes one person changing is all it takes for the relationship to shift.

How often do we meet?

Most counseling sessions are weekly

How long will we be working together?

This is up to you. It depends on your needs and goals, the type of problem you are starting with, the kinds of changes you want to make, and the effort you put in between sessions. Short term, weekly counseling might continue for a few months. More complex problems might take six to twelve months or occasionally longer. However, you will be able to see progress as we go.

Do you take insurance?

I do not work directly with insurance companies. However, many insurance companies provide partial reimbursement for "out of plan providers." If your insurance has this coverage, I can provide you with a monthly statement which you can send in for reimbursement.

Checks, cash, credit cards, and Paypal are accepted.
